Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions? We’ve answered the most common ones to help you get started with ease.
01
Is ear wax removal painful? No. Our methods are gentle and safe, and most patients find the process comfortable. Some individuals may experience mild discomfort or a noise similar to that of a vacuum cleaner due to the suction pressure.
02
Do I need to soften wax before my appointment? It’s not always necessary, but using olive oil drops for 2–3 days can help. Earol could be used instead. We do not recommed Otex drops.
03
Can children have ear wax removal?Yes, we can treat children — but please call us first to discuss their needs.
04
How often should I have ear wax removed? Most people only need treatment occasionally, but if you’re prone to build-up, we can recommend a maintenance schedule.
05
Why do I need earwax removal? It can be useful to maintain optimal ear health and treat certain conditions such as tinnitus or muffled hearing. It can also reduce the risk of infection.
06
How long does an appointment take?Microsuction typically takes about 15 minutes, although it may take longer depending on the condition of the wax.
07
Is ear wax removal suitable for everyone?Microsuction ear wax removal is suitable for most people, both children and adults. However, it may not be recommended for individuals with a perforated eardrum, certain ear infections, or those who have recently had ear surgery. Our trained professionals can advise on the correct course of treatment.
08
Are there side effects to microsuction?Microsuction is a safe procedure with little chance of side effects or complications when carried out by one of our qualified professionals. In very rare circumstances, patients may experience dizziness, ear trauma, noise damage, or ear trauma.
09
What if you cant remove my earwax? Our trained professionals will assess your needs and advise on the best treatment options. If microsuction isn't advised, and no wax is removed, you will be charged an Ear Health Assessment consultation fee of £30.
10
Will I be charged for a follow-up appointment?Occasionally, earwax may be too hard to remove completely in one session. If this happens, we will recommend using olive oil drops for at least three days before returning for a follow-up. If your follow-up appointment is scheduled within seven days, it will be provided free of charge.
